Kitchen Countertops – Embrace Your Style

2024 IS ALL ABOUT INFUSING YOUR PERSONALITY AND FLAIR INTO THE HOME’S FAVORITE ROOM

For years, design trends have been following a one-design-fits-all style concept when it comes to kitchens. This thinking has left many homeowners feeling, well, basic. For 2024, there’s a definite shift in kitchen trends. A distinct feel of sophistication is in the air along with the idea that whatever style makes you happy is the one you should embrace.

As kitchen trends evolve into a more luxurious direction, more designers and architects are exploring innovative ways to use materials and textures. The result is a kitchen that is just as creative and well-crafted as the food being prepared in it.

Here are some of the top trends to look for in the coming year.

TILE THE WALL Kitchen tile ideas get more adventurous each year. As subway tile became increasingly popular, we began to see it slowly expand to the ceiling. Floating shelves and walls without upper cabinets particularly benefit from utilizing tile walls especially when combined with dynamic designs. And this is where this trend really makes a statement. Leaving a wall cabinet-free not only opens the space up but it allows for an interesting tile pattern that is fresh, easy to clean and adds a personal touch.

DOUBLE UP ON ISLANDS

Just one large kitchen island is quickly being replaced with twin islands and designers are quick to share the benefits. At the top of the advantages list is improving traffic flow and doubling prep space. A double island design is beneficial for shared cooking and it makes entertaining easier. Use one island for prepping food and the other for sharing a charcuterie board.

BREAK UP BLOCKS OF COLOR WITH PATTERNS

As homeowners began to explore cabinet colors instead of basic whites and wood tones, patterns are emerging for a splash of interest. Expect to see bold back splashes as well as checkered patterns returning to floors. Checkered flooring provides a modern, elegant take on a classic floor surface. Juxtaposed with monochromatic color makes a room pop without being too “busy.”

CUSTOMIZED CANOPY HOODS

There are two ways to approach range venting in your kitchen: completely invisible or unmistakably present. For those that like texture, shape and interest, the latter is your best choice. Oversized canopy hoods are having a moment, and it is creating some beautiful design drama. Carrying the hood all the way up to the ceiling enhances the sense of height in a kitchen and firmly secures the range area as the kitchen’s focal point.

COUNTERTOP CABINETS

In general cabinets are having a design revival. In addition to new styles and colors, many homeowners are opting to go cabinet free on some walls and take cabinets to the ceiling on others. Another new design trend is to fill the awkward void between bas cabinets and uppers with something more stylish that stores clutter instead of allowing for it. Generally the same depth as upper kitchen cabinets but taller, counter cabinets appear to sit on the countertop like a freeform dresser. Using a different finish on them provides a furniture like feel that can break up the monotony of an all-white or solid color kitchen. They can even be dressed up with glass panes. But best of all, because they sit counter height, bi-fold doors can easily hide counter appliances so that any kitchen always looks tidy and neat.

THE OPEN PLAN BACK KITCHEN

Hiding the back kitchen was kind of cool, but didn’t make a lot of sense when you consider having to constantly open and close a door to get to it. Open plan back kitchens are hardworking spaces that are so beautiful, they deserve some recognition. By keeping the walk through doorless, the back kitchen becomes another layer of the kitchen aesthetic. It can still be a room that hides dirty dishes when entertaining, but visually seeing a curated vignette from the kitchen creates interest and excitement. Without the door, using the space is also much more functional.

LIGHTING THAT SHINES

High-statement light fixtures are on the rise bringing fun and interest to the kitchen. Expect to see large lighting that can be seen from many vantage points in the home. You’ll also see fixtures that incorporate texture, shape and color into an overall kitchen providing an overall wow factor.
