Home Builders Honor Members of the Year
Members of the Hilton Head Area Home Builders Association (HBA) gathered at The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa on Friday, November 17, for the much-anticipated Annual Lighthouse Awards Gala. The event celebrated the recipients of the 24th Annual Lighthouse Awards, with special recognition bestowed upon the Builder and Associate Members of the Year. These awards pay tribute to individuals within the organization’s builder and associate membership, acknowledging their remarkable commitment and contributions to the HBA, the community, and the building industry.
Builder Member of the Year – Allen Patterson of Allen Patterson Builders
The prestigious 2023 Builder Member of the Year award was presented to Allen Patterson, a devoted member of the Association for over three decades. Patterson has exemplified leadership by serving multiple terms as an officer on the Board of Directors since 2020. In 2023, he held the position of HHA HBA Vice President of Membership, playing a pivotal role in shaping the association’s membership growth and retention plans.
Patterson’s remarkable contributions extend beyond local boundaries, as evidenced by his standing as a “Statesman” in our National Spike Club with over 600 Spike Credits. His involvement was instrumental in securing the 1st place for our local association in the 2023 State HBA Drive Competition. Colleagues and friends commended Patterson for his unwavering commitment, with Michael Mark stating, “His ideas, dedication, and just plain down-to-earth logic have enlightened so many.”
Lisa Henry, 2022 Associate of the Year, presented the award to Patterson, sharing accolades from various quarters. She emphasized Patterson’s profound impact on the industry, stating, “This is inspiration when you instill passion in those around you.”
Associate Member of the Year – Melissa Brock of The Greenery
The 2023 Associate Member of the Year award was bestowed upon Melissa Brock of The Greenery, a dedicated HBA member for twelve years. Brock’s influence became particularly pronounced when she assumed the role of Chair of the HBA’s charitable arm, the Education Foundation Scholarship Fund, in 2017. Under Brock’s leadership, the Foundation awarded over $250,000 in scholarships to 87 students across Beaufort, Hampton, and Jasper counties.
Brock, who joined the board of director’s leadership in 2020 and became Associate Council VP in 2022, is a tireless advocate for the Foundation Scholarship program and HBA. Despite her busy work and travel schedule and the responsibilities of being a single mother to two recent college graduates, Brock is a familiar face at HBA events and within the community.
2023 HBA President Brandon Edwards of Element Construction praised this year’s honorees, stating, “They are the best of the best and it is an honor to work alongside them in their efforts to strengthen the building industry and our community.”

Chartered in 1965 under the leadership of the late Joseph Fraser, Jr., the Hilton Head Area Home Builders Association is a not‐for‐profit professional trade association of business professionals that represent, promote and support excellence in the home building industry through education, community service and environmental stewardship. The organization is made up of more than 500 member companies, representing residential and light commercial builders, subcontractors, suppliers and many other service professionals to the building industry throughout Beaufort, Jasper, and Hampton Counties. The association also administers the Hilton Head Home Builders Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization formed to support and raise funds for deserving local high school graduates seeking further educational or technical advancement.
