Stunning Sanctuary

STYLES, MOTIFS AND TEXTURES CREATE SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY IN THE SANCTUARY AT HAIG POINT.

In designing the magnificent Haig Point cottage you see here, Lisa Furey of Barefoot Interiors has brought to bear years of experience and a keen eye for textures, colors and styles in combining familiar elements to create something wholly original.

You’ll find within this peacefully serene cottage the fundamentals of a rustic farmhouse existing comfortably alongside more coastal features and hints of Lowcountry elegance.

“It’s really a cross between a beach cottage and a Lowcountry getaway,” said Furey. “Not too nautical, not too beachy… The inspiration was more like a farmhouse concept that’s more comfortable and easy to live in.”

The beach cottage motif asserts itself through wide windows unadorned by any treatment save a simple craftsman frame, placing stunning water views front and center and inviting in rich natural sunlight. In the décor, elements like the delightful driftwood light fixture in the dining room, the oyster shell chandelier in the magnificently appointed kitchen and the indoor outdoor wicker furniture let you know that the salt in the air comes from the water just beyond your door.

The farmhouse style comes from inspired design choices like the classic farm sink set into the center island, the rough textures and craftsman-style molding, as well as ingenious use of shiplap and beadboard throughout. To keep the design from being too overwhelming, Furey accents several rooms with decidedly modern touches like the high-gloss navy finish on the dining table or the clear lucite peekaboo console in the living room.

“We didn’t want to necessarily stick to a theme,” said Furey. “I like to pair more worn, rougher textures with slick modern elements to really give you something unexpected.” The results – a symphony of different styles and textures – speak for themselves.
